The recent statement of Dalai Lama is quite significant and can turn the course of the global political events of this decade. He said,” As my faith in the Chinese officials is getting thinner and thinner; my faith in the Chinese people remains strong.”He made a common cause with China’s pro democracy activists and talked about the rights of China’s other minorities and gave a clarion call not just for the free Tibet but also to establish democracy in China, thus emerging to be a champion of democracy for entire China. History shows time and again that ‘Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai’ never works in India’s favor and was always used by China to camouflage their clandestine ventures against India’s interest. They are supporting Pakistan by supplying nuclear reactors, thanks to the USA Government that asks China to first seek consensus from the NSG Nations.
China’s opposition to Indo-US nuclear treaty is well known. China is still not coming clear on Arunachal Pradesh. Also there is now a new suspicion of China helping the insurgents in the North East and thereby opening up a new route of supply to the terrorists in India, now that the ISI activities are on close watch by US radars. Besides there has been a huge build up of armed forces and creation of infrastructures in Tibet like building of railway track till Lahsa that offers tremendous strategic defence advantage to China against India.
India and China, both are vying with each other to grab the new global economic opportunity. While a strong democracy is India’s USP, world class infrastructure and good governance is China’s USP. While China cannot replicate India’s USP, India can certainly through its huge Public-Private partnership, foreign direct investment and extensive private entrepreneurship offer to create world class infrastructure in India.
The right to Information act and extending e- governance to all state and central government functioning can enable us to bring in the best quality of Governance in our country.
Another striking factor, not many are watching is that the new young generations are losing interest in Communism. Look at the CPI (M) Politburo in India. How many of our youngsters today will be inspired by them, more so in today’s iPod economy? These grey haired arrogant senior communist leadership will not find any successors today, as the economics of industry and agriculture have evolved enormously from the Zamindars and burgeons of the past. Karl Marx is dead long ago. Communism cannot thrive on the folklore and heroics of the past alone. Try finding a Das Kapital in any of the book shops. Look at the Communists in Tamil Nadu today .Even after so many years of operation in Tamil Nadu today they are not confident of winning a single Lok Sabha seat on their own and are deliberating on what alliances with local parties can make their winning chances better !
The communists with robotic programmed idealism have failed to bring the essential element of humanism in it. This is more so in China where the glitters of Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong covers up the abject poverty and suppression in rest of the China. The Nobel Laureate Dalai Lama, the Buddhist spiritual guru, can now be the axle around which the new revolution of a democratic China can move. India and US must provide the needed impetus to this. India and US, the two strong votaries of democracy can not let go this historic opportunity to create a democratic China. This will go a long way in establishing a peaceful world.
