Aniket took us to Jaane tu ya Jaane na  last Saturday.  A movie buff that he is, he always insists on seeing the first show first day of the release.  If I am in town, I need to accompany him with the promise that I won’t sleep during the show.  I could not keep up the promise when watching a movie named Sawariya .  I failed to understand what the director tried to convey except for the huge expensively built sets. Since then I coined a term “Sawariya syndrome“ meaning over emphasis on form rather than the substance that makes you lose the connect with the audience.

Contrary to my apprehension Jaane tu ya jaane na proved to be good and close to life moving around the usual routes of human relationships providing good entertainment.

Movie revolves around a few college buddies. All Aamir Khan Productions centre on power of youth, the upheaval of uncertainty they go through and their expression. The cast did a fantastic job. For Imran Khan, nephew of Aamir Khan there could not have been a better debut. I was very impressed with Genelia. I am told she also acts in South Indian films. This is her  first work  I have seen and if she works a bit on her accent  and maintains her originality  just the way she is and not try to copy anyone, she  holds a great promise  for  Indian cinema  that finds after a long wait  a face so refreshing  like Jaya Bhaduri in Guddi.

Deepika Padukone though many would disagree never came anywhere close to this category, truly speaking T 20 after all cannot match a test cricket. She  would do better justice if she focuses on acting.

A good work by director Abbas Tyrewala. Being the producer Aamir must have left his touch and thoughts which is quite evident in the film. Nasseruddin Shah and Paresh Rawal as usual are simply brilliant in their short roles.

My Rating goes as Good movie.. 3 / 5
