There is plenty of learning from US Presidential election process. US is admittedly is a mixed race country.. This is the first time in 232 years since the declaration of independence, an Afro American is becoming the President of US .One found it curious that the man was born to a Muslim from Kenya and that he grew up in Indonesia and Honolulu before beginning to work in the slums of Chicago as a community activist. . Race was never an issue unlike at times how it happens here in our country where caste, region, ethnicity takes the center stage.

Secondly, we saw the expense accounting for the election campaign by both the candidates accounting for even the coffee and pizza consumed . This transparency is very much needed in our system .

Third , it was a complete conscience voting where Democrats and Republicans voted as per their will and not under the dictat of any party whips as we see in Indian Parliamentary process.

The fourth and most important is the way John Mc Cain accepted the defeat and extended his support to the new incumbent maintaining the dignity of the presidential offices and the responsibility of the opposition party.

So we have lot to learn from this process and I am sure that this will lead to consensus building in India and create an impact on our parliamentary processes as well. There are dark sides too in US parliamentary election , but let us learn from the good aspects of the process.
