(My nephew Manas and his family at Tampa beach, Florida - pic taken by me)
Here is Manas , a self made person- I adore him a lot.Graduating from NIT Trichy in Production Engineering, he was getting bored managing production and labourers at Saint Gobain and decided to move over to Software . Since he left home post 10 plus 2 , he has been on his own without anyone guiding him on what to do and all that stuff . With a sharp mind and enterprising skill he made it well at TCS without any formal prior training in software and created a distinct place for himself in the area of mainframe computing , servicing clients in USA. I remember, whenever I went to my hometown during my undergraduate studies , he used to be very fascinated about my doing engineering and would ask me lots of questions , at times walking on my back on his tiny feet. I would narrate my stories while enjoying the massage by his feet.
That little boy has grown up now and when he was taking care of me while I was in Tampa recently, almost in a reversed role order, telling me on what to do or not to do and so on , a great surge of happiness swept inside. This time it was his son on my back ! I complimented his driving that makes you fall asleep the moment you get inside the car with his silk smooth driving .He has already crisscrossed the USA on wheels and some of his friends over there call him trucker seeing his skill and stamina behind the steering wheel.
I was also impressed with his character and the way he started the family life. He did not receive much mentoring while growing up. He learnt by observation and quickly adapting to the demand of the environment. We must ensure our children imbibe this value.I think this can happen only when we don’t interfere with their thinking and allow them to experiment in life.Let them lay their own path to walk on.
