Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma

Forty-two-year-old Sharma, who led the police action against the terrorists in Jamia Nagar, received three bullet injuries in his abdomen, thigh and right arm in the gunbattle.

“We have lost our best man,” Joint Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Karnal Singh mourned. Earlier, Police Commissioner Y S Dadhwal described Mohan Chand as “one of our most brave officers”. In the 10 years since he joined the special cell, Inspector Sharma won six medals. He was involved in some of the police’s biggest cases.He had helped nail the men involved in the attack on Parliament and was credited with helping to kill 35 terrorists. Another 85, who were arrested, were also tracked down by him. Sharma is survived by 2 children, a son and a daughter.

Most often we forget such brave and selfless sacrifice. I hear from the news that Inspector Sharma who was not wearing the bullet proof jacket did not even bother to wait for the same fearing delays in nabbing the terrorists who were about to escape from te hide out.Such fearless dedication to service need to be properly documented and archived for the emerging generation to emulate. 65% of our population are youth. If they inculcate such values ,India would be unstoppable.We may be ranking low in human development index, the levels of being a corrupt nation may stack very oddly against us , still we have such brave souls amongst us and they give us the hope and courage for the new generations to move ahead.

Very recently we saw how unceremoniously we bade farewell to an epic soldier ,General Sam Manekshaw. Human memory is weak , we remember the contributions of Gavaskars and Bachchans but forget such heroes who give their lives for us to live peacefully, who give up their dream putting their family in uncertainty for our children to live our dreams.Such sacrifices are valued much more than hundreds of gold medals. Hope the Government and other organisations would display so much of respects to Inspector Sharma and take such a good care of his family that tomorrow Mr Sharma’s children and our children should not think twice before emulating the brave Sharma.

Inspector Sharma has fulfilled his mission , now it is our turn !
