The recent terror attacks in Mumbai has been the worst so far with many innocent people losing their lives and India Inc losing business worth more than Rupees 50,000 Crores. This attack is also different from the previous ones in a sense that mostly the wannabe’s of the society and top business houses are the prime victims this time and I term this as blue blood .
You would find a brief summary of the terror attacks in India between 2000 to till date.
You will be surprised to note that in the last eight years in no single instance anyone from the government central or state bothered to resign taking moral responsibility.
Looks like it took the terrorists to shed some blue blood and hitting at the property of Taj, Oberoi and other foreign interest groups for the political and bureaucratic set up to wake up to the reality, pull up their shocks and finally do some real damage control activities like reshuffle in the Ministry as well as the bureaucratic set up , bringing in changes in the security infrastructure like having NSG nodes in all four metros , allotting grants to NSG to purchase their own aircrafts ( it took them more than 10 hours to commence the operation in Mumbai ), setting up of a federal investigation agency and so on besides of course the resignation of the Home Minister .Had the attack been only in CST and had the victims been only to the non-blue group , then we would have perhaps seen another round of Tamasha with doling out reliefs to the victims and flocking of the political big wigs to the hospitals!
As long as it was the cycle bomb or the lives of the innocent, faceless people of the society, Government ( both the NDA and UPA alike) doesn’t seem to be taking a serious note of such terror acts and neither does the media pay much attention or create the required impact as they are doing in this instance.
So blue blood still counts !

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackYou said the same thing I was telling my wife while watching NDTV’s program (we the people or something like it). It had Simi Garewal, Adi Godrej and several other’s who I call the the “Beautiful People”.
It reminds me of the story of the Tiger which got into the central government secretariat and every day ate an IAS officer.
Nothing happened until it ate the “Chai Walla”. All hell broke loose.
Now Pakis will regret taking on the beautiful people. They will ensure that security is tightened and they are not easily targeted.
@Vinay: That’s quite an interesting anecdote and represents the issue very well. The anguish and anger is fairly distributed and diffused (not defused!). That’s why politians are not getting a handle on where to start politicing.
