I am very happy to see a new genre of cast and movie makers today who are breaking new grounds to transform the typical Bollywood films into a Hollywood style. New age cinema on a totally different subject matter – a paradigm shift from the typical heroine running around the tree or the art films around abject poverty or use of expensive sets or outdoors shoot to portraying the sensitivity of life in a realistic way that audience can easily identify when backed by appropriate music and lights.
Aditya’s (Farhan Akhtar ) wife Sakshi (Prachi Desai) senses something is wrong with her husband and their picture perfect life together. Aditya is a tormented soul, as are his bandmates, flung apart by fate, ego, and formula-fixated music industry that would not recognise quality music .
Sakshi discovers Aditya’s musical past through a clutch of old photographs. And she tries to get the band together again, because in those photographs she has seen her husband for real: A far cry from the workaholic he is now. But, as always, there are new challenges to be overcome.
The film traces the relationship among the four buddies from college days , when the band has been disbanded due to interpersonal rivalries and the foursome drifted apart. The lead crooner, Aditya(Farhan Akhtar) is an investment banker . The lead guitarist, Arjun Rampal, is a miserable man, echoing the anguish of an artiste who cannot go commercial, even if his family struggles with bread and butter concerns. Purab Kohli, the drummer, is now selling jewellery in his father’s store, while Luke Kenny is literally dying of frustration, strumming tunes for Anu Malik. It’s left to Prachi Desai, Akhtar’s lonely young wife, to forge a reunion and bring the band together for a final concert that almost takes your breath away and make you cheer for them.
Understand this is Prachi Desai’s debut film and she is gorgeous and definitely going to make it big in the industry. Because audience these days changing, sick and tired of typecast films.
The inherent message is that follow your dreams , live your life , do what you enjoy doing – life will be on song . Upheavals of life’s struggle at times takes away these dreams /desires that all of us have in some form or other hidden deep inside. But buried inside these dreams only make us restless and never allow us peace . Like Aditya(Farhan) portrays a man tortured by the blues after selling his soul to the corporate devil at life’s crossroads. Shakshi notices that . An unusual demonstration of responsibility that the couples can undertake to help each other discovering the inner self instead of turning their back to each other .
My rating goes 4 out of 5
