The initials “MS” immediately reminds you of either Microsoft or Morgan Stanley. In fact the first recall one would make on MS would be MS Office that has become a part of our everyday life. Name it a strange coincidence, not just the organizations, even personalities with the initials MS have made it remarkably big in their respective fields.

The MS Magic as I would call it is spread across almost all fields, be it sports, entertainment, industry or hospitality sector. There is definitely something magical about these two letters.  Let me give you some examples.

MS Dhoni, the fiery captain of the Indian cricket team, he has given a series of wins in the recent matches.

I also must mention my ex professor and the current director of IIT Madras, Prof MS Ananth who has contributed so much to the growth of my alma mater. He is also acknowledged nationally and internationally  for his great contribution to science and technology.

The grand old man of Indian hospitality industry MS Oberoi  must definitely be mentioned here. His life was a dramatic one , full of hardships. Fighting all the odds out he rose to a spectacular position in life and  left behind a great legacy which  inspired many look up on hospitality as an industry.

I also had a great good fortune to interact with India’s eminent agricultural scientist Dr MS Swaminathan many a time.  Known as the father of green revolution in India, his vision is to remove poverty and hunger from India. His radiating personality reflects the aura of his knowledge and wisdom. With  his  immense contributions to the field of agricultural research and global food security, I wonder why still he has not received the Nobel Peace Prize.

How can anyone forget the nightingale of our country  MS Subbulakshmi? She was a great cultural ambassador of India.  Her songs are  a divine medley and this is what Dr APJ Abdul Kalam wrote in her obituary ‘…you were born in music, lived with music and now forever you are merged with divine music…”.

Other famous women who have also made it big in their chosen professions are  Mallika Srinivasan, Industrialist - Chennai, Mallika Sarabhai - daughter of scientist Vikram Sarabhai , and a management graduate from IIM -A , she is a noted danseur. Of course the MS magic is not complete without the gyratic ( that is the only romantic word in mechanical engineering )  Mallika Sherawat !

I am sure, many parents now would be prompted to add these magical two letters “MS” to their children’s name or rechristen their names, in fact I am myself strongly thinking about adding these two letters to my own name, just in case this helps me to beat the recession !
