Ever increasing number of college buses on Chennai road has become a new traffic menace today.Aniket had a very narrow escape last Thursday when his college bus almost rolled down off the road while trying to avoid a collision with a trailer making a sudden wrong turn. Luckily the bus stopped against a huge stone and the students came out of the window. Quite a few students got injured with some of them being critical. Aniket was hit by a glass splinter on his lower back and had to take first aid treatment at the health centre. More than this , he is yet to recover from the trauma of the accident though I keep cheering him up saying you at least didn’t land on Hudson !
College buses early in the morning on Chennai road drive more recklessly than even the metro water lorries. I am told, at times they race against each other. This is a very common sight on Poonamalee High Road or the OMR. I suggest the transport authorities and Chennai Traffic police jointly make a campaign against such careless driving to avoid major accidents . They must check over speeding, careless driving, fitness of vehicle, driver’s licence, driver’s health and testing the driver for any possible intoxication and hold the concerned institute responsible for any negligence on these fronts.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThis is awful. The students were lucky, to say the least. One only needs to stand next to a major road to see these monstors.
